Jake and Brenda. ENGAGED!

A couple of weeks ago we went to meet Jake and Brenda in their hometown to schedule the engagement session and get to know each other. Right away we loved this couple. They were so fun and down to earth. They met out in the ministry and are both doing full time ministry service. This is a couple that you can just tell are best friends. As in they've known each other for long time and really know each other. They're past the "cookie" stage as Jake calls it and are into the "cupcake stage". I love couples that are best friends because thats how my husband and I are. We had a very similar story and I just loved that. They loved Syd to death, and didn't mind our teasing. We definitely became friends with these two!
Last week we shot their engagements, and had a blast! We went to Pasadena to their favorite cupcake place. From there we went to Griffith Observatory and just explored. I'm so glad we got to to to Griffith Observatory because it had everything they wanted, and I so hope they love their photographs as much as I do! I wanted so much to show their close relationship, and they're so cute they didn't need anything extra! I shot both film and digital because they were perfect for both. I'm so proud of this shoot. Here's our day, enjoy!

And of course a stop motion, HERE!!
We just can't help this is such a huge post because we love these two and these pictures so so much! Can't wait for their wedding in October....

Going to creativeLIVE in Seattle!

Well actually...Samantha is going to creativeLIVE with Lindsay Adler!  What is that and what does that mean for Vintage Modern Photography?  creativeLive.com is a live, worldwide classroom of education for creatives...the future of practical education.  June 1-3 Lindsay Adler, a fashion photographer is teaching a creativeLIVE class on "Fashion Flair for wedding and portrait photographers" for free online!  6 students were chosen to join Lindsay in person at the workshop and not only that, she is including them and their ideas into the last day of the session.  That is what made us so excited for Samantha to audition with a video for the workshop.

Samantha loves fashion, in fact our photography is very much inspired by the vintage inspired aesthetic of our favorite store...Anthropologie and the clean modern look of J.Crew as well as the beautiful, soft feminine fashions of Elie Saab and then there's Samantha's absolutely favorite designer...Marc Jacobs.  You can see the influences of fashion photography in her work especially her hero of whimsy, Tim Walker (the Tim Burton of fashionable picture taking).   Heaven forbid we forget about Colleen Atwood, the costume designer who has collaborated with Tim Burton on many of his movies.

Well Samantha's love for fashion motivated her (as well as my big push) to audition sharing her ideas for a fashion inspired shoot and she got chosen!  That meant lots of preparations and since Samantha was in the midst of editing one of her all time favorite weddings, that meant I had a lot to do.  I can't reveal the surprises in store for everyone but I can tell you that I have acquired new skills including boat building along with Joshua Arroyo (Samantha's new hubby).  I will leave you with  a preview of things to expect and a reminder to tune in to creativeLIVE.com/live especially Sunday morning sometime between 9:45 to 10:30 when Samantha gets to....well, you'll hear more about it soon!

In the meantime, please tweet in support of Samantha (she's a bit nervous but excited) using the hashtags #vintagemodphoto and #adlerLIVE, you can leave comments for Samantha on our Vintage Modern Photography facebook page as well!  :)

We have been creating sample books and this one was so much fun to make.  These books are designed to preserve memories in a beautiful, fine quality album with a choice of covers...the Modern Montage series. We have many choices of album styles and covers to go with our portraits available to our Southern California clients.

It is a sample book of the babies, bellies and families we have been taking pictures of as we started Vintage Modern Photography.  I wrote a story to go with the images of these wonderful babies, their beautiful mamas and a few families as well.  We are so proud of our work and we want to keep taking special pictures of babies and families to be treasured for years to come!

Wouldn't you like to see your loved ones in a beautiful album before too much time goes by?  Give us a call for your portrait session and album choices!

Amanda & Jared Get Married!

Our good friends Amanda & Jared got married with a "Mad Men" fashion sense and an old fashioned back yard wedding sensibility.  It doesn't hurt that our own Josh (Samantha's hubby) handsome'd up the groomsmen.  There was good food, good times and lots of personal details as well as family and friends pitching in to make a beautiful day for this sweet couple!  BTW...the BEST pomegranate jelly as a favor...my trees contributed.  We created a video so they can remember the highlights of their day and you can see it HERE!

Our Studio Albums Are Here!

These are a few of them...leather covered wedding albums, a plexi cover leather spine book and a linen spine book.  They all lay flat and come in beautiful papers including metallic!  We're going big time baby!  Well, we are feeling more professional anyway.

The sample wedding albums also show off my daughter's beautiful weddings.  The Babies, Bellies and Family book shows our work portrait work with the little ones.  I wrote a story about what we do and added the photographs to go with it.  How we love the babies!

Welcome Karly Hawksley to the world!

We put out a call for a newborn to try out our video skills.  The idea was to preserve the tiny, cuddly, sleepy, delicate details of a newborn baby.  That time goes so quickly.  The first video always tells you what skills to improve upon but a sweet baby can never be improved upon!  Sydney, our newest member of the team did a great job and you can see the video link at the end of this post.  We also tried out a new background of vintage pretty and blossoms to go with.  Enjoy the images of this beautiful little girl!

See her newborn baby goodness in our new baby video HERE!
