Vintage Modern Photography is here!
Welcome to our blog for our new adventure. VintageModernPhotography.com was created because of our love of vintage things with a modern view of design and fashion…kind of like Anthropologie style photography! A crazy, creative mother working to help my talented photographer daughter to follow her dreams and in turn, finding my own as well as filling a need for imaginitive brides and families in the Hemet/San Jacinto Valley and throughout the Inland Empire/Southern California.
Together we try to create a playful experience in whimsical, light filled images reflecting the life, personality and beauty of our subjects. Whether it’s using vintage props, shooting in the great outdoors or in our light filled studio in Hemet… we are inspired by vintage photography from old school Irving Penn to fashion greats Richard Avedon, Sarah Moon and Samantha’s favorite – Tim Walker, even 1960′s street photographer Virginia Maiar but with a modern view and style.
Samantha went to Riverside Community College for her photography training as well as professional workshops to hone her technical skills. But even fierce technical skills are boring without her imagination and ability to find the light. She experimented with her photography in completing a 365 project where she took self portraits every day for a year. Throughout the year she studied the seasons of natural light photography, posing, themes and settings that she could apply to her future subjects. She developed many fans and her work was featured on many blogs including the Paris Apartment and many tumbler sites. Here are a few of my personal favorites (click on the the links below the images and you will see the sets that go with them!)…

I have been a second shooter for Samantha (as well as other photographers) at engagement sessions and weddings from Oceanside to Ontario. I love to photograph babies and children. I am expanding my photography skills in vintage inspired portraiture reminiscent of old portrait painters like John Singer Sargent. My background in the antiques business not only provides the vintage props but the styling experience as well for the set ups on themed photo shoots.
We have so many exciting projects ahead of us and will be sharing images from some of our favorite sessions. We just photographed a newly engaged couple with a “Benny & Joon” movie inspired shoot at an abandoned mansion in the foothills of the San Jacinto Mountains. Our next post will show you the highlights of that photo session along with the stop motion video that is a unique feature of our engagement and wedding sessions. Our clients love the joyful memories these videos give them as well as a one of a kind “Save the Dates” for engagements. We can create these special stopmotions for your session as well. We are always open to ideas from our clients. Call us and let us talk about what you have in mind or let us create something special for you!
